What type of insurance do you need?

Does your car ever feel like your home away from home? It’s easy to let items pile up in your car but, do you have the necessary items in the event of an emergency? Below is a compiled list of 10 items we find valuable to store in your glove compartment:

  1. Flashlight
Imagine trying to change a flat tire or work your engine with your eyes closed. Seems impossible, right? A fully charged flashlight can become your lifesaver in the event of a nighttime emergency.
  2. Proof of Insurance
It’s always best to have at least one your insurance in your glove compartment in case you have a wreck or get pulled over by police.
  3. Owner’s Manual and Maintenance Schedules
What if a new light comes on in the middle of your road trip and you aren’t sure what’s it is for, don’t have any cell service, and cannot get anyone to stop and help? The manual for your automobile is stored in your car for a reason; keep it there to refer to when nobody else is there to help.
  4. Emergency Contact Numbers
Many drivers rely on cell phone contacts to direct authorities on who to call but, what if your phone breaks during an accident you were involved in? Or what if they cannot unlock your phone fast enough? Writing down several contact names and numbers can better direct authorities who to call in the event of an emergency.
  5. Critical Medical Information
Under your emergency contact list, it’s also important to write down any medical conditions, medications, and allergies for each family member in case you cannot communicate this to whoever is there to help.
  6. Phone Charger
Although cell phones are discouraged to use while driving, it’s important to still keep them charged. Making phones calls for help is one thing but tools such as maps, roadside service, pictures of recent wreck and checking severe weather can come in handy when needed. Always make sure you are pulled over and stopped before looking down to check your phone.
  7. High Energy Snacks
Have you ever been stuck in extra-long rush hour or heard of crazy 5+ hour traffic delays? In these scenario’s, a filling snack would come in handy for yourself and/or your children. Bottles of water are not a bad idea either.
  8. First Aid Kit
Although we hope it never gets used, having a first aid kit can help in the event you are injured in a wreck or are helping someone else who has been injured in a wreck.
  9.  Pen/Paper
Jotting down a phone number you’re needing right away, what exit to take, or information from your bank teller is common – having a handy pen and piece of paper is not. Keeping pen and paper handy gives drivers the option to never have to use both hands while looking down at their phone to take notes.
  10. Napkins, Tissues, and Wipes
Spills, sneezes, and sticky messes are inevitable. Storing extra napkins, tissues, or wipes better prepares you for an easy clean up when these types of messes occur.
