What type of insurance do you need?

It’s that time of year again, spring! With spring comes fresh flowers, greener grass, warmer temperatures and of course, spring cleaning! If it’s time in your home to start your spring cleaning, continue reading for tips and check lists of some areas you may not think to clean.

·         Trash Cans; indoor and outdoor. Washout and disinfect all trash cans to keep the pests away. The indoor trash cans are full of contamination from those sick days you had during the winter. Trash cans in the garage can attract outside bugs – keep them out!

·         Furnace Filters; time to replace or clean the filter in your furnace. This is important to keep your furnace running efficiently.

·         Basement/Attic Organization; sort through boxes of stored items and clothing. Donate, sell or trash items as appropriate.

·         Patio Furniture; it’s time to start BBQ season again. Wash and disinfect your outdoor furniture so you will be ready for your first spring cookout. Scrub the inside of grill and put some heat on it to kill germs before using.

·         Porch and Driveway; sweep away any extra salt you may have sprinkled out from the ice storms this winter. It’s good to power wash every once and a while to get extra clean. While you’re at it, you can power wash the sides of the house and deep clean windows too!

·         Bedroom Pillows; wash if possible but if your pillows are not washable, hand clean them or replace them with new pillows.

·         Flip the mattress; to keep even wear on your mattress, it’s wise to flip it periodically. Spring cleaning is the perfect time!

·         Smoke Detectors/Alarms; replace batteries in all smoke detector units. This helps prevent the unwanted 2:00am wakeup call from your smoke alarm running out of battery.

·         Refrigerator Coils; pull out the refrigerator and clean the coils. Be sure to unplug the refrigerator firs to avoid any shocks. The coils are usually at the bottom under the grill or in the back. Simply vacuum away any dust or dirt build up with a vacuum with attachments.

·         Oven/Stove Cleaning; in addition to cleaning the inside of the oven, look at the exhaust vents. Clean the grease traps and vents as well. Pull the oven out and clean behind the unit to remove excess dust and debris that has dripped down over the months.

Last but not least, it's very important to review your insurance. Your auto and home insurance protect yourself and your valuables - don't regret not having enough coverage!! It's vital to ask your agent for quotes with higher limits - the difference could be as cheap as $20/year. Accidents happen, make sure you are covered. If you would like help reviewing your coverage, please call our office at 806-763-7311 and we would be happy to discuss a few options with you and guide you through the process.

Happy Spring!!
