In a recent Public Service Announcement, the FBI discusses the potential threat to children's privacy and potential unwanted contact that could occur with the use of internet-connected toys.
The article addresses how some of the toys have recording and video capabilities and this data could potentially end up in the wrong hands. Along with recording device capability, there are toys that use GPS features which combined with video recognition features could put the child in a situation of being exploited by an unknown person.
The FBI encourages parents to pay attention to the capabilities of the toys they give their children and to read user agreement disclosures, privacy practices and know where their personal data is being stored and used.
The FBI also goes into detail in informing families how these toys can be vulnerable to hacking and theft of the data through wi-fi and blue tooth connections.
